AGARD is an acronym for Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. It is concerned with the broad range of technologies which are critical to the development of the aerospace industry. The technologies include structural, aerodynamic, material, and degradation processes. AGARD was started in 1951 by the famous aerodynamicist Theodore von Karman so that the growing perplexities as well as opportunities in aerospace might benefit from interdisciplinary as well as international cooperation. The activities of AGARD are conducted from Paris with a small office staff coordinated by Rolland Willaume who helped von Karman get the fledgling organization off the ground. Questions concerning the publication of papers by AGARD can be answered by writing to the AGARD offices: 7 rue Ancelle, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. The coordinating role of AGARD is exercised generally through the medium of workshops, independent studies, and lecture programs.
