This technical note introduces the concept that amines perform a dual function in preventing corrosion of aluminum by chlorinated hydrocarbons: one is the adsorption of amines at the oxide-solution interface and the other a neutralization of HCl formed as a degradation product of the chlorinated hydrocarbon.
