Galvanized structures and sheets from which the original galvanizing is burned off during the welding process are successfully regalvanized on the job with a low melting zinc base alloy to prevent rust and corrosion. This method of regalvanizing can be applied to seams made by arc or gas welding and to other galvanized areas that have been worn or damaged. In welding, the intense heat of the arc or flame burns off the coating of zinc and exposes the bare metal adjacent to the weld. In most cases, it has been impractical to regalvanize the bare spots by the hot-dip method which requires a heated receptacle containing molten zinc, and which is impossible in the case of large structures.
