A complete review of silicate mortars and the latest developments due to process changes are presented. Methods of evaluation are given and various types of mortars are compared. Industry's adoption of scrubbers and elaborate cleaning systems, required to meet current environmental pollution regulations which result in lower operating temperatures below the dew point and increase wet corrrosion. New developments in silicate mortars which make it possible to use them over an expanded pH range and under service conditions previously not acceptable are discussed.
