In this study, previously derived relationships between critical anodic current density and chemical composition of Type 304 stainless steel were used to develop a new series of 18Cr-8Ni alloys with improved passivating properties. Electrochemical and corrosion tests confirm that these special Type 304 alloys have superior resistance to general and localized corrosion in various acids.
