Potentiostatic anodic polarization of anodized coatings on aluminum was sensitive to both coating thickness and degree of seal. The polarization behavior of anodized coatings parallels their performance in atmospheric service. Thus, anodic polarization could be used as a test for the atmospheric corrosion resistance of anodized coatings. The advantages of an anodic polarization test are discussed.
