An attempt has been made to resolve the controversy over the mechanism of dezincification. Copper-zinc alloys were subjected to freely corroding conditions as well as anodic and cathodic polarization studies. Conjoint considerations of the results from the three types of experiments showed that there is no direct evidence in favor of a redeposition of copper theory. A linear relationship between rates of dezincification and specimen potential values supports a theory that the zinc was preferentially dissolved.
