An experimental technique for the controlled hydriding of Zircaloy-4 in concentrated lithium hydroxide solutions was developed. The precedure can be altered to yield uniform hydrogen distribution or to produce hydride rims. Zircaloy specimens must be insulated from all non-Zircaloy components to prevent spurious results.
