The attached literature survey on dealloying phenomena is submitted as the first quarterly report on the NACE-sponsored research project on ''Mechanism of Dealloying." Every effort was made in preparing this summary to discriminate among the many available literature references so as to select only those which were of principal significance.
The principal sources of references were Corrosion Abstracts and Chemical Abstracts. The subject index of one of these was searched for each year from early 1936 to 1967. In addition to references gained in this manner, the reference lists of the various reports were checked for further information. Only one paper not printed in English (Piatti and Grauer, Werkstoffe und Korrosion, 48, 3 (1963) p. 551) actually was translated completely, but this report provided insight into most other non-English references for which abstract information was available.
