Influence of both passivators and cathodic potential activators on the behavior of differential aeration cells depends chiefly on their influence on the potential differences of the cells. Good inhibition results when this potential difference is reduced to a low value. Increased cathodic polarization appears to be involved in the development of protection by cathodic potential activators.
