Laboratory experiments were performed to find efficient inhibitors for ammonium nitrate corrosion of mild steels. Through simple weight loss determinations a number of such products were found. The most efficient inhibitors were then tested in stress corrosion experiments. Ca (H2PO4)2, Na2HAsO4 and (NH4)2 HPO4 also showed a remarkable inhibiting effect on intergranular stress corrosion. Electrochemical measurements and microscopic observations confirmed the efficiency of the inhibitors and gave some idea of their possible mechanism of protection.
