Our symposium is concerned with the corrosion problems in the water works field. In this field, comprising billions of dollars invested principally in ferrous metals, is found perhaps the maximum interest in corrosion protection.
This interest is growing at an accelerated rate as new materials and methods are becoming available for proper protection, and it is hoped that by pooling our ideas at this and subsequent conventions, together with the publishing of papers in the magazine corrosion, that a store of information will be made available.
The materials utilized in water systems are below ground and are subject to two hazards—internal and external corrosion—as distinguished from the oil and gas industry, where the problem is principally external corrosion.
I should like to tell of some of the problems in the water works field, how they have been corrected, and some of the practices of the Department of Water &...
