Identification of the products of a corrosion process is of prime importance to the understanding of the mechanism involved. Clarification of the reaction enables the corrosion engineer to select the properly resistant materials or the protective method to solve a particular corrosion problem.
This article outlines the generally-applicable techniques for identifying the intermediate and final products of corrosion processes.
