DR. E. R. Allen was graduated from the University of Illinois and received a PhD degree in organic chemistry from Cornell University in 1913. After institutional and teaching work, he entered the employ of the du Pont Co., serving four years in research on azo dyes with the Organic Chemicals Department, 23 years as Director of Research on Pigment Colors, Pigments Department, and three years as Senior Research Associate. In 1950 he took up research contract work at Rutgers, the state University, School of Chemistry, in the capacity of Research Specialist, a position from which he retired on December 1, 1960. His chief interests at Rutgers have been on corrosion and certain problems for the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission.
