Study of Metal Corrosion Using the Heavy Isotope of Oxygen. Pt. II. Corrosion of Cadmium in Humid Atmospheres. A. S. Fomenko, T. M. Abramova and I. L. Gankina. J. Phys. Chem. (Zhur. Fiz. Khim.), 33, No. 10, 2249-2252 (1959). (In Russian.)
The O18 isotope distribution between water, gaseous O, and Cd oxides was studied in the corrosion of Cd in water and O of different isotope composition. In 3% NaCl solution in the presence of gaseous O, corrosion proceeds according to electrochemical and chemical mechanisms. After 30 hours there was no O18 isotope exchange between Cd(OH)2 and water, whereas under the same conditions equilibrium was established for O exchange between Cu(OH)2 and water.—MA. 20100
