Principal characteristics of zinc-filled and modern organic coatings are compared briefly. Self-curing types recently introduced have numerous good points and some deficiencies. Zinc-filled inorganics are compared to organics in resistance to corrosives, surface preparation, undersurface corrosion. Various uses for zinc-silicates are reviewed with comments on service experience. Problem involving overcoating is considered and some means of solving it presented. Materials are considered especially suitable for environments in southern areas near salt water. 5.4.2
