Corrosion in HF alkylation units is studied through a summary of replies to questionnaires mailed to HF industry representatives. The following types of corrosion are considered individually: uniform corrosion, pitting, grooving, weld decay, hydrogen attack, and stress corrosion cracking. Detailed accounts are given on corrosion occurring on component parts of contactors, acid settlers, acid stripper systems, acid regeneration systems, isobutane fractionating systems, debutanizer systems, depropanizer systems, tar systems and evacuation systems. Control measures used to mitigate corrosion are reported where available.
