A study was made of the effect of certain creosote fractions in preventing attack of wood by marine borers. Pine panels used in tests were impregnated with creosote over a range of 5 to 20 pounds per cubic foot and with fraction equivalents of 10 to 15 pounds per cubic foot. Tests were made to determine both initial borer resistance and long-term protective ability of cresote fractions. Data given include the relative performance rating compared to whole creosote of base-free creosote, acid-free creosote acid-and base-free creosote, solids-free creosote, tar-free creosote, petroleum ether-soluble creosote, distillation-residue-depleted creosote, distillation residue, acid-free petroleum-ether-soluble-creosote, and six distillation-fraction-depleted creosotes. 3.3.3
