Low iron, special high grade, zinc anodes were installed on the bottom of the YTB-542 for a study of their performance as sacrificial anodes. Hullpotential readings were taken weekly for a fifteen month period, after which the vessel was dry docked and the hull examined. Protective potentials, referred to silver-silver chloride half-cell, of —0.85 to —0.90 volt were maintained with the ship at rest and averaged —0.78 volt, when underway. The condition of the hull was excellent. The rate of zinc consumption in anodes was low. 5.2.2
