Three permissible and one prohibitory corrosion loss rating series in inches pentration per year are listed in order of increasing pentration under three class headings. Classes are arranged according to cost of materials. This arrangement of merits versus costs permits selecting materials for corrosion resistant service while simultaneously considering resistance and cost. Allowance is made for pitting through invalidation of two of the classes of approval ratings and transferring the remaining most favorable rating schedule to least favorable. A factor for precious metals is recommended.
