Replies to a questionnaire prepared by Task Group 4-B-4 on Tests and Surveys of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers are summarized. Answers are given to questions on practices used in making corrosion surveys on lead sheathed cables underground by 22 companies and electrolysis committees. Companies replying operate both communication and power cables. The replies reveal a wide diversity of practice among the companies. Considerable information on techniques, instrumentation, criteria, materials and pertinent design and operating routine is included. Some recommendations are made for improved materials, methods and future inquiry.
