Question by Otto H. Fenner, Monsanto Chemical Co., St. Louis:

What are recent developments of higher temperature resistant adhesives or undercoats for use with neoprene sprayed coatings ?

Reply by R. B. Seymour: Two different adhesive systems are used commercially for liquid neoprene coatings, viz., chlorinated rubber and modified neoprene primers. The latter is superior for elevated temperatures but in spite of the thermoplastic characteristics of chlorinated rubber, this priming system has also given good results with neoprene coatings at temperatures as high as 200 degrees F.

Question by R. William Meyer, Gulf Oil Co., Pittsburgh:

Is anything being done to improve the shelf life of one-package neoprene coatings?

Reply by R. B. Seymour: Some attempts have been made to increase the shelf life of the so-called liquid neoprene maintenance coatings by reducing the effectiveness...
