New Flow, Leveling Additives Released for Can, Coil Coatings

January 9, 2025

Evonik Industries recently released two new flow and leveling additives without silicones, specifically developed for use in can and coil coatings.

Both the TEGO Flow 375 and TEGO Flow 460 N products are listed worldwide and are suitable for direct contact with food, according to the company.

As a result, this could help reduce complexity for coatings manufacturers by enabling broad use. Instead of using different products, manufacturers can now use the same additive for diverse end-use applications.

Meeting High Global Demand

TEGO Flow 375 and TEGO Flow 460 N each contribute to meeting high demands made on the global production and marketing of can and coil products, Evonik said, noting that decisions by end users are strongly influenced by quality considerations and appearance.

“Both products are silicone-free. Impurities and associated cratering can therefore be excluded, thus ensuring smooth-running production,” said Kirstin Schulz, marketing director for industrial coatings at Evonik.

Additionally, the flow and leveling additives exhibit improved heat resistance and give the coating a durable, high-quality appearance, the company added.

Compatible with Many Formulations

The TEGO Flow 375 is especially compatible in solvent-based formulations, and the additive achieves optimum gloss values, Evonik said. Meanwhile, the TEGO Flow 460 N possesses deaerating characteristics, thus enabling defect-free application — especially in pigmented formulations.

Strong adhesion and wetting properties in multi-coat finishes should allow both products to be used in all coats without impairing the painting process, according to the company.

Both additives do not include aromatics.
