Construction and demolition sites often present hazardous conditions for workers, with the construction industry consistently having among the highest U.S. injury and fatality rates.
To help the industry address these challenges, the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has launched a new web-based library of content to bring a comprehensive collection of education materials and resources to the forefront. It’s the first of multiple industry-focused information hubs that ASSP plans to introduce as it reimagines workplace safety and health education amid COVID-19 and beyond.
“Safety professionals in construction now have a great resource for guidance on identifying and controlling risks to improve productivity and keep workers safe,” said Brad Giles, president-elect of ASSP and a longtime safety expert in the construction field. “This approach enables ASSP to expand its reach and is ideal for the next generation of safety professionals who seek best practices and prefer online learning.”
First Two eLearning Modules
The construction safety resource is a sustainable model that allows ASSP to reach safety professionals worldwide with high-quality content that is focused on their specific industry. The first two eLearning modules target the most common safety issues faced in construction – fall protection and safety management.
Web visitors will find articles, videos, blogs, podcasts, infographics, webinars, checklists, quizzes, and other learning opportunities. That includes information on SafetyFOCUS: Construction, which kicks off ASSP’s virtual safety education series on Aug. 26-27 with access to 1.4 continuing education units (CEUs) to help maintain professional certifications.
Construction Practice Specialty
Construction safety professionals will also find information on how to advance their careers by getting involved in ASSP’s Construction Practice Specialty, a member community committed to advancing workplace safety through networking and educational opportunities for peers who face the same challenges.
