Over 65 Roofing Professionals to Assist Residences in Need

December 3, 2024
Roofing professionals attending the International Roofing Expo® (IRE), a business-to-business tradeshow for roofing professionals held in New Orleans this week, will be giving back to the community by participating in Community Service Day, the show’s home repair and revitalization project.

Over 65 IRE attendees have committed to participate in Community Service Day, which will be held Monday, February 5 from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. The volunteers will be donating their time to repairing homes of families that are elderly, disabled, or financially unable to support the renovation.

“We began this tradition at the 2010 International Roofing Expo to make a positive difference in the lives of those still suffering the effects of Hurricane Katrina,” said Brandi McElhaney, CMP, Senior Conference Manager. “Nine years later, we are still going strong and helping families in multiple cities.”

Volunteers will perform a variety of construction disciplines including roofing, interior/exterior painting, fencing, sheetrock, flooring and minor carpentry. They will help with set up, landscaping, cleanup and other miscellaneous projects.
The first home adopted will have a roof replaced, courtesy of CertainTeed and Roofing Solutions. Some of the work being done on the home includes painting, building handrails on porches, fencing, and landscaping.

The second adopted home is still uninhabitable from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The residents still live in their converted garage. With the work being done to their home, which include siding installation and sheetrock, they will be one step closer to moving back home.

A third home will see volunteers demolishing an existing fence, water sealing the fence, landscaping, and clean up.
The International Roofing Expo has also partnered with Rebuilding Together New Orleans, a non-profit, volunteer-based program that repairs and rehabilitates homes and non-profit community facilities. Tax-deductible monetary donations can be made during registration for the IRE, which opens tomorrow.

Community Service Day is sponsored by Canton, MA-based Sika Sarnafil, a leading manufacturer of single-ply vinyl roofing and waterproofing systems. Sika Sarnafil has been the primary sponsor since the inception of the IRE Community Service Day.

Additional contributors include OMG, Carlisle, CentiMark, ICP Adhesives & Sealants, Inc. and Damato Enterprises.
The International Roofing Expo® (IRE) will run from Tuesday, February 6-Thursday, February 8 and is a trade-only event, only open to those involved in the roofing industry.

Qualified media may register on-site for press credentials. For more information about the event, visit www.theroofingexpo.com.
