Abstract
In Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) Potable water above storage tanks (ASTs) have the capacity to store 140,000 m3 of produced water. After more than 20 years in operation one of these tanks experienced different types of corrosion problems. To know the integrity of the tank material complete off-line assessments were carried out at interior and exterior of ASTs.
The assessment was based on physical observation, corrosion product analysis by using different techniques, comprehensive water quality parameters and cathodic protection system review. During root cause analysis the presence of blistered coating, and blistered coating with pinhole were noticed. In this paper corrosion mechanisms have been discussed and remaining life assessment has been recommended to develop a plan for cleaning and repair of the tank bottom, if required.
