Polymer composite/multi-layer pipes are gaining popularity in the energy industry. Recently, flexible composite pipe technologies have gained attention for their lower environmental impact, ease of installation, corrosion resistance, lower weight, uncomplicated end-fitting design, and ability to act as standalone structural line pipe or to be pulled through existing steel pipelines. Their size continues to increase, as does their pressure rating, due to better material combinations, reinforcements, and multilayer designs. For some applications, such as hydrogen or humid carbon dioxide transmission, the risk of mechanical property degradation over their lifetime is lower than metallic pipes, making them an attractive alternative for the energy industry.
